WHAT’S THE TRIP LIKE?
Glad you asked! Here’s a little teaser 🙂
NOTE: this video is from our supplier and features non-vegan dishes… so you’ll need to imagine the amazing cuisine our chef will conjure up, all plant-based!
A Galapagos cruise is a bucket-list adventure, but it’s not a lounge-by-the-pool kinda deal!
You should expect moderate physical activity: snorkeling with sea lions (I mean, come on!!), kayaking calm bays, or hiking 1-2 hours over rocky trails to spot blue-footed boobies. Walking involved easy beach walks to climbing natural stairs with handrails, but as long as you can walk unassisted, you should be fine.
Speaking of snorkeling: it’s a big part of a trip to the Galapagos, but it’s NOT mandatory. Wetsuits will be provided and you can certainly just use them to go for a swim.
You’ll need decent balance to hop on and off our tenders, though less intense options like zodiac rides or beach walks will usually be available.
Not a fitness buff? You’ll still manage, but stiff joints might grumble. Having said that, we’ll be able to make modifications to accommodate different fitness levels. This could mean splitting the group into a slower and faster pace and offering alternative activities like a zodiac ride instead of challenging excursions.
Seasickness can be real. It’s worth noting that larger yachts like ours are inherently more stable than smaller ones due to their greater weight, lower center of gravity and the fact that they are less affected by wave motion. If you do start getting wobbly, normally just heading up to the top deck for some fresh air – the sun decks and observation areas are ideal for this – will greatly help. Facing forwards and glancing at the horizon (look out for those horizon-hugging frigatebirds!) are well-known ways to reduce seasickness.
This trip is ideal for wildlife lovers and curious explorers but if you crave nightlife this remote paradise might feel too wild. The pace is steady—daily outings with chill evenings—so if you’re up for nature’s front row with a bit of grit, this trip’s calling your name!

This morning we pack our bags and head to the airport for the ~2/3hrs flight to the Galápagos Islands!
Upon arrival at Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on San Cristobal Island, we’ll take a quick, scenic transfer by bus to the dock, and then a fun Zodiac ride will bring you directly to the yacht, anchored in the bay. After settling into your cabin, join us for a delicious welcome lunch onboard.
We’ll have a welcome briefing and a brief safety drill to get everyone oriented. Afterward, you can select your snorkel gear and wetsuit, ready for underwater adventures this week! Take some time to get comfortable as the yacht departs the harbor.
Within a few hours, we’ll arrive at Leon Dormido, or “Sleeping Lion.” This incredible volcanic rock formation, a remnant of a vertical tuff cone, rises 500 feet from the ocean. Erosion has created a striking split in the rock, providing a stunning backdrop, especially at sunset – a perfect photo opportunity. As we cruise around the formation, watch for blue-footed boobies, Nazca boobies, and frigatebirds nesting on the cliffs. Guests on the Evolve will also visit La Galapaguera de Cerro Colorado, the Land Tortoise Breeding Center.
Later, join the Captain and crew for a cocktail reception. An elegant multi-course dinner, prepared by our chefs, will be served to complete your first day. The Galapagos adventure is officially underway!
Your first full day of Galápagos exploration begins with an exhilarating Zodiac ride to Cerro Brujo – or “Wizard Hill”! Keep your eyes peeled as your guide points out the incredible variety of birds soaring above. Brown pelicans, brown noddy terns, and blue-footed boobies will be putting on a show, dive-bombing into the water to fish. See if you can spot the different color patterns that tell you the age of the birds – did you know a mature brown pelican has a white neck?
Look closely at the rocks, too! You’ll see Sally Lightfoot crabs scurrying everywhere. They start out black when young, but transform into incredibly colorful creatures as they grow. Your guides will also point out fascinating geological formations, including “The Cathedral,” playfully nicknamed “Darwin’s Pants” – see if you can guess why!
After your Zodiac tour, we’ll land on a stunning coral sand beach. Here, you can explore at your own pace. Enjoy a peaceful walk along the pristine sands, or even take a swim with playful sea lions right from the beach! This is also a perfect, relaxed spot to get comfortable with your snorkeling gear before we venture into deeper waters. Your expert guides will be on hand to help you identify the amazing fish species you spot in the shallows.
This afternoon, we set off for Punta Pitt for a memorable hike. The trail here is a bit rocky with some uphill sections, but the reward is absolutely worth it! Punta Pitt is renowned as one of the best birdwatching sites in the Galápagos, and it’s the only place where you can see all three booby species: blue-footed, red-footed, and Nazca boobies! Keep an eye out for fluffy white baby blue-footed boobies – they grow up so fast! Frigatebirds, swallow-tailed gulls, storm petrels, and brown pelicans will also be putting on an aerial display. For those who want to get back in the water, we’ll have the opportunity to snorkel at Pitt Rock. Get ready to swim with sea lions and admire colorful fish like King Angel and Surgeon fish.
As the yacht sets sail this evening, you can unwind in the library with a guidebook or a good novel, or head to the top deck for a distant view of the iconic “Kicker Rock.” Later, join us on the sundeck for delicious gourmet snacks and a taste of local Galapagos beer! And as night falls, join your guide on deck for a breathtaking exploration of the Southern Hemisphere’s star-filled skies. What an incredible day of wildlife and wonder!
Get ready for a morning landing at Punta Suarez on Española (Hood) Island, a true Galápagos hotspot! Your guides will reveal the incredible array of endemic species found only here, including the magnificent waved albatross. These birds are ocean wanderers for years, returning to land just to mate, and if you’re visiting between April and December, you’re in for a treat – you’ll witness their famous courtship dance!
As you explore, watch your step for marine iguanas basking in the sun on the dark lava rocks. These fascinating creatures are usually black, but during mating season, they transform with vibrant red and green colors from their algae-rich diet. Follow the trail to the dramatic ocean blowhole and keep an eye out for colorful Sally Lightfoot crabs darting along the shore. We’ll also be on the lookout for Darwin’s Finches, the Española mockingbird, Galápagos Doves, red-billed tropicbirds, Galápagos Hawks, Nazca boobies, and swallow-tailed gulls – the world’s only nocturnal gull!
Back on the yacht, a delicious BBQ lunch awaits you on deck (weather permitting!), and you’ll even get a fun Ecuadorian ceviche cooking demonstration. After lunch, your guide will offer an interesting enrichment lecture on marine currents and weather, or the fascinating geology of the islands.
In the afternoon, you’ll have the chance to snorkel at Gardner Islet, exploring underwater caves teeming with invertebrates. Later, we’ll disembark at Gardner Bay, home to a stunning white-powder sand beach and playful sea lion colonies. Watch the dominant males guarding their harems! Here, you can choose your own adventure: snorkel from the beach, kayak, paddleboard, or simply relax on the sand, soak up the sun, and spot more wildlife – Darwin Finches, Española mockingbirds, and Galápagos hawks are often seen here. After a day packed with incredible experiences, we’ll return to the yacht for a briefing about tomorrow’s adventures and a delicious dinner.
This morning, step onto the unique olive-sand beach of Punta Cormorant on Floreana Island! Listen to the sounds of sea lions, lava herons, night herons, and blue-footed boobies as you explore. Discover the beach’s green hue, caused by iron and manganese from volcanic lava, just like in Hawaii!
Follow your guide to a brackish lagoon, a haven for Bahama ducks, stilts, Galápagos flycatchers, and vibrant pink American flamingos! Your guide will point out the diverse plant life, from morning glories to mangroves. The trail leads to a beach where sea turtles nest and stingrays glide in the shallows.
Snorkeling fans, get ready! You won’t want to miss the chance to snorkel at Devil’s Crown or Champion Islet, a sunken crater teeming with colorful fish, coral, white-tipped sharks, sea turtles, eagle rays, and sea stars.
Back on board for lunch, we’ll delve into the intriguing human history of Floreana, the “Island of Mysteries.”
This afternoon, experience a classic Galápagos tradition at Post Office Bay! Drop a postcard (no postage needed!) into the historic barrel, and sift through those left by others. If you find one destined for near your home, the tradition is to hand-deliver it! Your postcards will be delivered by future travelers in the same way.
For more adventure, take a Zodiac or paddleboard to Baroness Point lagoon, seeking sea turtles and rays in the shallows, and photographing vibrant sea stars and fish. Return to the yacht for a delicious Espresso Martini made with local Galápagos coffee, followed by our evening briefing and dinner. Another incredible Galápagos day!
Wake up in the bustling harbor of Academy Bay, the Galápagos‘ lively hub! This morning, we’ll disembark at Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island and hop on a private bus for a scenic ride into the lush highlands. As we ascend, notice the changing vegetation zones, becoming greener and denser.
Our morning adventure takes us to Rancho Primicias or El Chato, private ranches where magnificent giant tortoises roam free in their natural habitat. Prepare to be amazed by these gentle giants, some weighing over 500 pounds! We’ll also explore fascinating lava tunnels on the ranch, a truly unique experience. For those feeling green-fingered, you can join the “Green Team” and plant a tree, contributing to Ecoventura’s reforestation project and leaving a positive mark on the Galápagos. Our next stop is Los Gemelos, “the twins,” massive volcanic craters that showcase the island’s incredible geology.
We’ll return to the yacht for a delicious lunch onboard. Afterwards, immerse yourself in an enriching talk by your guide on a captivating topic like Darwin’s Theory of Evolution or the unique arrival of species to the islands.
This afternoon, we’ll visit the Centro de Crianza Fausto Llerena breeding center, followed by the Charles Darwin Research Station Exhibition Hall. Witness firsthand the vital conservation efforts underway, see hatchlings and young tortoises destined for island repatriation, and pay tribute to Lonesome George, the iconic Pinta Island tortoise. You’ll also encounter saddleback tortoises, including descendants of “Super Diego,” a conservation success story!
Finally, take a leisurely stroll through the seaside village of Puerto Ayora. Browse local art, jewelry, and souvenirs as you wander towards the pier. Tonight, you have the option to stay in town and sample local cuisine at your own pace (Zodiac transfers back to the yacht are available, conditions permitting). Otherwise, a grand multi-course dinner awaits you back on board!
Wake up to the tranquility of the Galápagos once more! This morning offers two fantastic choices. For the energetic, a rewarding hike awaits on Bartolome Island. Prepare for a bit of a climb – around 400 wooden steps wind their way up the island, culminating in breathtaking panoramic views of iconic Pinnacle Rock. Along the way, your guide will unveil the fascinating geology of this volcanic landscape, pointing out mini lava cones and lava bombs shaped by ancient eruptions.
If hiking isn’t your preference, opt for a delightful Zodiac ride around Bartolome Island, specifically to spot playful Galápagos penguins! These adorable, petite penguins are often seen swimming, diving, and preening on the rocks.
Afterward, the crystal-clear waters of Bartolome beckon! Wade in from the beach and snorkel in paradise. Swim alongside schools of vibrant tropical fish, keep an eye out for white-tipped reef sharks, and perhaps even encounter some of those charming Galápagos penguins underwater!
Return to the yacht for a delicious BBQ lunch served on deck (weather permitting), featuring grilled delights and a fun cooking demonstration.
This afternoon’s itinerary varies slightly depending on your yacht – which is to be confirmed – ensuring everyone enjoys incredible Galápagos experiences.
Origin guests will explore Sombrero Chino (Chinese Hat), a unique island named for its distinctive shape. Sea lions greet you on the beach, and the trail reveals marine iguanas and oystercatchers amidst volcanic formations. Snorkeling here, often with penguins, is a must!
Theory guests will visit Playa Las Bachas on Santa Cruz Island. Explore inland lagoons with striking flamingos and then enjoy another wonderful snorkeling opportunity.
Evolve guests will experience a Zodiac excursion to Caleta Tortuga Negra (Black Turtle Cove). Glide through mangrove-lined coves and inlets, listening for sea turtles and watching for golden rays.
Later, we’ll gather on the sundeck for gourmet snacks and an Ecuadorian cocktail during our evening briefing. And tonight, get ready for some fun – our crew is hosting an optional pirate-themed party!
This morning, we’re off to South Plaza, a captivating islet with towering cliffs and a trail brimming with unique flora and fauna! Keep an eye out for young “Opuntia” cacti, protected from invasive species – a testament to Galápagos conservation. Birdwatchers will be thrilled – look for nests of swallow-tailed gulls, shearwaters, small ground finches, and red-billed tropicbirds. This uplifted island is also home to a boisterous bachelor sea lion colony, where you might witness dominant bulls recovering from territorial battles. Get ready for close encounters with land iguanas, and your guide will explain how they differ from their marine cousins.
During lunch, we’ll set sail for North Seymour Island, where a truly spectacular sight awaits! Prepare to be amazed by frigatebirds – especially the males, proudly displaying their inflated red throat pouches to attract mates. At mating season’s peak, you’ll be surrounded by dozens of these incredible birds, but even outside of that time, you’ll still see individuals in their courting plumage. The Galápagos is home to both Great and Magnificent frigatebirds, and your guides will teach you how to tell them apart.
For one last underwater adventure, we’ll have a final snorkeling opportunity in deeper waters. Keep your eyes peeled for sharks, sea lions, starfish, and a kaleidoscope of tropical fish.
As the day winds down, join the Captain for a special farewell gathering with a champagne toast. Let’s take a moment to reflect on our incredible week and share our gratitude for this Galápagos paradise. Finally, a grand multi-course farewell dinner awaits – a culinary masterpiece with exquisite flavors and presentation. The evening culminates with a captivating presentation, a nostalgic look back at the highlights of our unforgettable Galápagos journey.
This morning, after breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye to the Galápagos Islands. But first, we have a meaningful stop at the Interpretation Center on San Cristobal Island. Here, you’ll delve into the human history of these enchanted islands, providing a perfect capstone to your Galápagos experience. Enjoy a short, pleasant walk along a paved trail before we head back to the seaside village. Ecoventura has arranged a comfortable, private VIP lounge where you can relax and enjoy refreshments before your transfer to the airport. Consider this your exclusive final Galápagos moment! Then, it’s a quick flight back to the mainland, carrying a lifetime of incredible Galápagos memories.
Once back on the mainland we’ll transfer to our hotel and have some time to freshen up before heading out to our final dinner.

Please note that signing up before the deadline does not guarantee the trip will run as this depends on having the necessary minimum of participants.
PAYMENT SCHEDULE
Following the sign-up fee (PAYMENT #1), the remaining balance will be due in 2 installments:
We can work with you on a payment plan: pay your trip in the usual 2 installments, or opt for several. Contact us to discuss what works best for you!
SOLO ROOMS: unfortunately, we can’t accept any solo travelers (in a single cabin) at this moment. This may change so please send us an email with your interest so we may put you on a Solo Waiting List. TRAVEL MEDICAL INSURANCE – MANDATORY
All travelers must have travel insurance that covers emergency medical treatment and emergency evacuation. It is also prudent to purchase insurance to cover more. To learn more about buying insurance for a World Vegan Travel trip, read this blog post.
ITINERARY
The itinerary is therefore subject to change, especially if we find an experience that we believe would make the trip even better.
DIET RESTRICTION & ALLERGIES
We do try to accommodate everyone’s food restrictions, especially allergies. We can only do so if you let us know of any requirements when you sign up. We begin working with all our hotels and restaurants a long time in advance, and meals are usually locked several months before the trip. At this point, it is often no longer possible to change menus.
In other words: it is your responsibility to alert us of any dietary requirements, restrictions, allergies and needs, when you sign up.
We do realize our prices seem high. However, when compared to many other tours to the region, we are actually comparatively priced when you take into account that our trips include all meals (and vegan to boot!) and drinks, all the tips for drivers and local guides, and many other extras like a amenities/essentials bag, a free laundry day, the support of 2 full time tour leaders (most tours have only one), and, finally, the chance to travel with author and animal advocate Colleen Patrick-Goudreau.
The size of our boat is also important. At only 10 rooms, we have a limit of 20 travelers on board (including your tour leaders plus Colleen and her husband David). This means that less people are sharing the charter cost, BUT it does mean it’s a much more intimate and exclusive affair!
It’s also worth noting that there aren’t many 100% fully vegan tours in the Galapagos. Our trip cost does factor in the lengthy and hard work done with all our supplier and partners (ie the ship, restaurants, guides, etc.) in educating and preparing them for our visit (meals, advocacy, toiletries, etc), which is far beyond any tasks that other tour companies are faced with. This work begins several months before the trip, and becomes full-time hours around 3-4 months prior to the trip’s start date.
We also realize that for many, these types of trips are something they’ve dreamed about for many years. As such, we’ve constructed an itinerary that will make this trip truly memorable in regards to our accommodation, meals, and choice of activities.
Colleen Patrick-Goudreau is a recognized expert and thought leader on the culinary, social, ethical, and practical aspects of living vegan, Colleen Patrick-Goudreau is an award-winning author of six books. She is an acclaimed speaker and beloved host of the inspiring podcast, “Food for Thought,” which was voted Favorite Podcast by VegNews magazine readers several years in a row!
Her compassionate living philosophy is propelling plant-based eating into the mainstream and forever changing how we regard animals.
Colleen, her husband David and World Vegan Travel work closely together to create these trips which are specifically curated by Colleen to ensure the high quality that she has come to be known for. All trips include activities and dedicated time with Colleen, such as Q&A session, round-table discussions, sharing, and more.
Due to the smaller size of our vessel, we are not offering solo rooms for the time being. Do check the trip information on this page as this could change at any moment.
FLIGHTS
You are in charge of your own transportation — whether it be flights, train, bus, car, etc. — to our starting city, and your return transportation from our departure city.
For your arrival, we ask that you try and arrive early on the first day, as our first meeting tends to be in early afternoon. This exact time and place will be confirmed at a later date, but do plan ahead adequately to leave you enough time to get to our meeting place by that time. Even better is arriving one or more days before. This would provide you with a chance to take care of jet-lag and visit the town.
Please note that your transportation to our first meeting point is not included.
VISAS
A valid passport is required to enter Ecuador. However, passports must be valid for six months and one day after you plan to leave Ecuador. No Visas are required for U.S., Canadian and most European citizens. Visas are required for some Asian, Central American, Middle Eastern and Eastern European countries. It is the passenger’s responsibility to check with local immigration offices or the Ecuadorian consulate prior to sailing to determine if a visa is necessary.
TRAVEL/MEDICAL INSURANCE
Medical travel insurance is mandatory on our trip. We need to have assurances that you are fully covered in the event of a medical emergency, including repatriation. You will need to send us your policy detail and emergency contact number before the trip’s start date.
Trip Insurance (trip cancellation, lost baggage, etc.), on the other hand, is entirely up to you, though we highly recommend purchasing it. It often comes packaged along with medical travel insurance, or you may get coverage simply by paying for the trip using a credit card (inquire with your card supplier).
As we are not a travel agency or booking agents, we can’t book any flights or ongoing travel (ie hotels, transportation, etc) for you. However we can surely help with recommendations, suggestions and tips as you look into flights, or extending your holiday. It never hurts to ask, so don’t hesitate to contact us with any queries whatsoever!
You can expect transitional weather as the islands move from the cool, dry season to the warm, wet season. Air temperatures will be a pleasant 19-27°C (high 60s to low 80s Fahrenheit), and sea temperatures will be around 20-24°C (68-75°F).
While the sea might feel a bit cool for some swimmers without a wetsuit, it’s excellent for marine life activity. Our boat will provide wetsuits so the water temprature should not be an issue!
Rainfall is generally low in November, with a slight chance of occasional, short showers as December approaches, but overall minimal rainfall is expected. You can anticipate a mix of sunshine and clouds, with about 2-4 hours of clear skies per day. Humidity is typically low in November, contributing to comfortable conditions. This period is generally a good time to visit for a balance of pleasant land and sea conditions and still offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.
Here’s a quick packing list. More information will be provided in our Trip Information Document, which you will receive several months before the trip’s start date.
We recommend Teva sandals or waterproof shoes for wet landings. According to the site, you can also disembark barefoot and wear your hiking shoes afterward. The guides will always brief you on what to wear for each activity.
Additionally, we provide biodegradable soap, shampoo, and conditioner, beach towels, a reusable water bottle, wetsuits, snorkel masks, and flippers. Guests also receive bathrobes, slippers, a hairdryer, and a small pair of binoculars (one per cabin).
All cabins are conveniently located on the same deck, offering panoramic, unobstructed views. Each cabin measures 145 square meters.
Mobile phone service on Galapagos cruises is generally very limited to non-existent.
You’ll likely only find a signal in port towns like Puerto Ayora or Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, and even then, it might be weak or unreliable. Out at sea and at most visitor sites, you should expect no mobile service.
Wi-Fi is available 24/7 for guests in all areas of the yachts and is provided free of charge. However, please note that service may be subject to weather conditions in the area.
In Quito, our hotel has free WIFI.
We provide all accommodation, transportation and meals. All expenses during our included activities are taken care of, including tips for guides and drivers.
You will then only need cash for extra purchases such as souvenirs, extra drinks outside of what’s included, extra snacks, etc.
In Quito, tipping hotel staff is not necessary and entirely up to you.
If you have any specific dietary needs or food preferences, we kindly ask you to contact Brighde at [email protected] before finalizing your booking. Please provide her with detailed information about your dietary needs or preferences, and ensure you receive a written response from Brighde before finalizing your trip booking. Your cooperation and understanding in this matter are greatly appreciated.
Please note that any additional requests made after the booking has been completed might not be able to be accommodated.
Colleen (and her husband David) is very much another traveler in our group and will be taking the same vehicles and participating in the same activities as the rest of us. You can approach and talk to her at any time, just like anyone else. Having said that, do remember that she will be as tired as everyone after a long day of travel or sightseeing, so we should just be respectful of that as we are of anyone else.
You can expect a moderate level of physical activity on a Galapagos cruise. Activities typically include:
Overall, you should be comfortable walking for a few hours per day, sometimes on uneven ground, and getting in and out of Zodiacs. The exact level of activity will depend on the activities you wish to participate in.
Youth above 16 years young are welcome. We are currently not accepting any younger children.
There’s no upper age limit, though do note that there is a fair amount of walking on this trip.
All drinks are provided: water, soft drinks, juices, mocktails, cocktails, beer, wine and spirits. Some premium drinks are available on board at an extra cost.
World Vegan Travel aim to be a safe place for all LGBTQ travelers. We have a zero-tolerance policy on discrimination of any sort.
For LGBTQ+ travelers in Ecuador, including Quito and the Galapagos:
Legal Protections: Ecuador has made significant progress in LGBTQ+ rights. Same-sex marriage is legal, and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity is unconstitutional.
Social Acceptance: Quito and larger cities are generally more accepting and cosmopolitan. You’ll find LGBTQ+-friendly businesses and a visible LGBTQ+ scene, particularly in Quito. The Galapagos Islands, being a tourist destination, are generally welcoming to all visitors. However, outside of tourist areas and larger cities, social attitudes can be more conservative, as is common in many parts of Latin America.
Safety: Generally, Quito and the Galapagos are considered safe for LGBTQ+ travelers. It’s always wise to exercise precautions, as you would in any destination. Public displays of affection might attract more attention outside of explicitly LGBTQ+ venues, especially in more traditional areas.
In summary, Ecuador, Quito, and the Galapagos are relatively welcoming destinations for LGBTQ+ travelers, with legal protections in place and a growing level of social acceptance, particularly in tourist areas.
