Person packing a yellow sweater into a suitcase with sneakers, camera, and travel essentials — World Vegan Travel carry on packing list.

The Ultimate Long Haul Carry-on Packing List with PDF

Traveling long haul is exciting, but it can also feel stressful—especially when you’re worried about forgetting something important. We’ve all been there: that nagging feeling that something is missing even after the bag is zipped up.

That’s why we created this long haul carry on packing list. It’s simple, printable, and includes little checkboxes so you can easily tick off items as you go. Even better, you can get the full free checklist when you sign up to our newsletter. Keep a few copies near your luggage so you’re always ready for your next adventure.

Why Use a Carry On Packing List?

A checklist keeps your mind calm and ensures nothing is forgotten. By having everything written down, you don’t have to second-guess yourself on the way to the airport or during the trip. This guide also explains why each item matters and points to a few of our favorite vegan-friendly, eco-conscious travel products.

Choosing the Right Bag

We recommend using a backpack or daypack as your carry-on. Not only does it hold everything for the flight, but it also doubles as your day bag when exploring. One of our favorites is the Peak Design Everyday Backpack (20L or 30L). Just note: only the black version is fully vegan.

Travel Documents

Keep all your essential papers safe and easy to grab:

  • Passport + visa (use a waterproof, non-leather passport cover).
  • Travel insurance info (always have the policy and emergency number handy).
  • Boarding passes + tickets (keep digital copies available offline).
  • Itinerary + arrival details (hotel address, transfers, train tickets).
  • Emergency contacts (especially if traveling solo).
  • Trip organization: Keep all your tickets handy with TripIt.

Pouch for travel documents
This really is a matter of personal preference. Seb really likes to keep all of his lounge cards, passport, his pen, and any other papers together, whereas Brighde uses a secure pocket inside her backpack. A good option is the Sans Beast Voyage Vegan Leather Travel Wallet, which is stylish, durable, and completely vegan.

Money & Identification

  • Credit / ATM cards (carry more than one type in case one isn’t accepted).
  • Some cash (just in case cards don’t work).
  • Driving license or photo ID.
  • Credit card company info (so you can quickly block or replace a card if needed).
  • Empty your wallet before you leave: take only what you need (no store cards).

Toiletries

Remember: liquids must be under 100ml and packed in a clear bag. Essentials include:

Clothing

  • Hoodie or sweater (planes get chilly). A sustainable choice is the prAna Vaha Hoodie, lightweight and easy to pack for travel.
  • Spare underwear (for freshening up after a long flight). Try PACT Organic Cotton Underwear, which is fair-trade, vegan-friendly, and super comfy.
  • Compression socks (good for circulation on long journeys). We recommend Comrad Compression Socks, designed to support circulation on long flights.

Electronics

Comfort & Extras

  • Eye mask (we love Manta Sleep Masks for blackout comfort).
  • Snacks (in case your vegan meal isn’t available). Read our blog post.
  • Reusable water bottle (fill after security). Bring a reusable one like Klean Kanteen.
  • Collapsible cup or utensil kit (to cut down on single-use plastics). Stojo cups fold flat and double as coffee cups.
  • Pen (for immigration forms).
  • Neck pillow (if you sleep better with one). The TRTL Pillow is lighter and easier to pack than traditional pillows.
  • Utensil kit: Try the To-Go Ware bamboo set.
