Why we love Rwanda
We came to Rwanda in 2016 with our dear friends Colleen Patrick-Goudreau and her husband David. Our main goal was to see the gorillas but we were surprised at how beautiful Rwanda was. Completely landlocked and situated on a high plateau, it certainly feels like the country of a thousand hills.
Equally surprising was its progressiveness. Rwanda has one of the world’s highest percentage of women in government and environmental policies more extensive than much of the developed world. This includes a devotion to cleanliness that’s immediately evident when you land in Kigali, thanks in part to a nationwide monthly clean-up by everyone in the community – even the president.
But perhaps the most remarkable experience – not just in Rwanda, but anywhere – is seeing the country’s gorillas up close in their natural habitat. It is a life-changing moment and nothing can prepare you for the experience.
